An american leader, Helen Storrow, offered to donate money to build the first guiding centre as long as it was build in Switzerland, a country she loved.

Pax Lodge: London
Opened in 1939 built on funds raised by the 'Pennies Appeal' and was known as Our Ark originally. Then later replaced by Olave house. However, officially opened as Pax Lodge on the 15 May 1991. Activities include experiencing the Crystal Palace Maze and visits to Brownsea Island.

It was felt as though a wold centre should be built in Asia and therefore led to the construction of Sangam on the 16 October 1966.

Did you know: For some years it had been a keen idea to establish a world centre in the African region in favour of Kenya, last resting place of Baden Powell. The world conference in 2011 agreed on a virtual concept with progress to be presented in the next world conference; held in 2014.
