Agnes Smyth Baden-Powell was born on the 16th December 1858. She was the ninth out of fourteen children and was the younger sister of BP. She established the Girl Guide Movement.
Agnes is known for being an accomplished musician; playing the organ, violin and piano. She had many interests, including natural history and astronomy.
Apart from her outdoor interests of cycling and swimming, she helped her brother Baden Baden-Powell make aeronautical balloons (Hot Air Balloons).
Due to the popular opinions against mixed activities (Boys and girl interacting together). BP handed the leadership of the Girl Guide movement to Agnes so similar activities could be taught to girls separately. Later, in 1912, she became the president of the Girl Guiding Association. She stated, in her book published Handbooks for Girls, "Girls must be partners & comrades, rather than dolls". Despite her unorthodox ways, which lead people to believe that Girls might become tomboys, she was consider a kind lady and perfect for her role.
